Interlibrary Loan

To use OLLU's Interlibrary Loan service, borrowers must be in good standing.
Materials Available through Interlibrary Loan:
  • Books not owned by OLLU Library
  • Select Government Documents
  • Journal Articles not held by OLLU Library
Most lending institutions do not circulate audio-visual materials to other libraries. Borrowers should be aware of this when requesting audio-visual materials.
Books that are missing from the Sueltenfuss collection are available for interlibrary loan.
Obtaining Dissertations:
Due to the limited number of available copies, many lending institutions do not circulate dissertation to other libraries. Libraries that do lend dissertations may charge between $20.00 and $30.00 per item.
Dissertations unavailable through interlibrary loan can be purchased online through UMI's Dissertation Express

Interlibrary Loan Fee:
There is no fee for most interlibrary loan transactions. Some libraries do charge between $15.00 and $20.00 per item. If a fee is required, the borrower will have the choice to either pay the fee or cancel the request. No fee will be charged until after contact is made between the borrower and the Head of Public Services.
Interlibrary Loan Arrival Time:
On average, most materials take at least five - seven business days to arrive. This time frame is an estimation based on previous ILL arrivals at OLLU library. It does not constitute a borrower's guarantee of obtaining the material within this time frame. Rare or hard to find items may take longer.
Houston patrons: Processing and transit time takes an additional three days
Interlibrary Loan Borrowing Length:
Books and videos are allowed to be kept, on average, for two to four weeks, depending on the lending library's loan policy. It is the responsibility of the borrower to know when their interlibrary loan materials are due back at the Sueltenfuss Library.
Copied articles do not need to be returned to the library
Interlibrary Loan Renewals:
Renewals can sometimes be allowed by the lending institution. However, renewals must be requested before the due date. See the librarian on duty for details.
Returning Interlibrary Loan Materials:
All items are to be returned to the library's checkout desk on or before the due date.
Houston patrons: All items should be returned to the Sueltenfuss library in a well-secured package. A postage-paid OLLU library mailing label will be provided for the return shipment. Borrowers will be charged for damaged or lost interlibrary loans materials due to poor return packaging.
Checking the Status of an Interlibrary Loan Request:
All borrowers will be called or notified by email as each item arrives.

Delivery of Interlibrary Loan Materials: Books/Videos
San Antonio patrons can retrieve all books and videos from the library checkout desk during regular library hours.
Houston patrons: Books and videos will be mailed to the address provide in the initial interlibrary loan request.
Delivery of Interlibrary Loan Materials: Articles
Patrons will be notified by email when their articles have arrived. Patrons will be provided with a password and URL where the article(s) can be accessed online. The article must be accessed within 30 days.
Overdue & Lost Fines:
Overdue fines for all interlibrary loan material accrue at a rate of $0.25 per day.
Lost interlibrary loans books are subject to the fee incurred by the lending institutions and are the responsibility of the borrower. The average fee for lost interlibrary loan materials is $75.00 per item.
Until all fines are paid and all overdue ILL items are returned, users interlibrary loan priviledges are suspended.
Interlibrary Loan Process:
Books/Videos/Dissertations:
Check OLLU Library Catalog to see if the item is available at OLLU Library
If not available at the Library, complete a Interlibrary Loan Request Form.
Citations for books must have proper title and author information. To expedite the interlibrary loan process, include publisher, edition, and ISBN number, if possible.
Incomplete or incorrect citations will delay the interlibrary loan process.
Requests made for items owned by the library will be returned to the requestor and it is the responsibilty of the requestor, not the library, to obtain the material from the shelf. Returned requests may be picked up at the checkout desk under the requestor's last name.
Articles:
Check OLLU Periodical Holdings List to determine if the article is available at the OLLU Library
If the article is not available at the OLLU Library, complete an ILL Request Form
Article Citations require:
  • Journal Title
  • Article Title
  • Author
  • Volume Number
  • Issue Number
  • Date
  • Page Numbers
