Faculty Guide to Library Course Reserves

General Course Reserve Questions

What are Library Course Reserves?

Library reserves are materials made available to students that directly supplement their class. These supporting materials may be of various types, including books, videos, articles, software, maps, pamphlets, etc. There are two types of course reserves available: Regular Reserves and Electronic Reserves (E-Reserves).

What is the difference between and Regular Reserves and

E-Reserves?

Regular reserves are materials that are available for checkout at the Library’s circulation desk. Regular reserves may include all types of materials but are accessible only when the library is open.

E-Reserves are limited to articles, chapters and selected audio files. Items on e-reserves are available online anytime during the semester and require a password from the instructor.

How can students get access to class e-reserves materials?

Students will receive a password for their course reserves directly from their instructor.

What do I do if my e-reserves password does not work?

If the e-reserves passwords you were given does not work, contact Oscar Gutierrez (gutio@lake.ollusa.edu) at the Library’s circulation desk for help.

How long can a reserve item be checked out?

Depending on the instructor, items on Regular Reserve (with the exception of audio-video materials) can be checked for times periods ranging from 3 hours, overnight, 3 days, or 7 days. Audio-Visual materials can be checked out for periods ranging from 3 hours, overnight, or three days.

Materials on E-Reserves can be viewed online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week during the semester.

Where can students find out what material is on reserve for my class?

For regular reserves, students can check the reserves notebook at the Library’s Circulation Desk and search under the instructor’s name. Students can also search for print reserves using the Library’s Online Catalog. For e-reserves, students can go to http://ollu.docutek.com/eres/default.aspx and select the Electronic Reserves link.

How long will it take to get my e-reserves material posted?

Processing reserve materials may take up to 5 working days. Reserve requests should be submitted at least a week in advance of reading assignments. Reserve requests are processed in the order they are received.

Can I place materials on both print reserve and e-reserve?

Yes but only photocopies and selected audio files.

How long can I keep materials on reserve?

Photocopies will remain on reserve for one semester only. All photocopies will be removed from the reserve collection and returned to the instructor after the last day of each semester.
